WHY I SUPPORT ROBERT A. FOSTER JR. FOR HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY JUDGE - GROUP 25
His opponent, a professional government prosecutor, comes directly from a key, 10-year career position in the very troubled, local State Attorney's office - and as such, has no doubt become imbued with the insular and arcane culture of that particular institution.
In this brave new Post-Modern world, where daily revelations of prosecutorial (and police) excess and misconduct have become commonplace, where winning and/or "political correctness" often seem more important than finding the simple truth, and where faddish "statutes-dujour" proliferate like weeds, I have come to believe that there is an impassable gulf - albeit a clear choice - between the philosophically adversarial perspectives of "prosecution" and "defense." I am skeptical, therefore, of the inevitable political baggage and prosecutorial mind-set that a professional government prosecutor - Robert Foster's opponent - would surely bring to the Judgeship.
The cartoon below by internationally acclaimed political cartoonist, Pat Oliphant, eloquently and succinctly reflects the growing public concern in this regard.
